NOVEMBER 2003

This has been a great month for attitude and for action. My daughter and I decided that we should keep track of what we are eating and the amount of carbs we eat a day. I got us both an Atkins journal to keep track of what we eat, along with multiple other things. That has made a big difference in holding us accountable and not being able to conveniently “forget” how many/much we were actually sneaking in throughout the day.

We also started exercising!! The key for us was finding something that we could do quickly and without much sweat so we could do it anytime even if time for a shower was not available. We also needed something we could stay committed to for more than 2 days and we wanted something that had a good track record for accomplishing weight loss and muscle building. I found it one day as I was browsing the book section of Target. I bought the book “8 minutes in the Morning” by Jorge Cruise. It is a great book to read with his personal story along with information on weight loss, nutrition and exercise. What I love is that it fits all of the requirements I was looking for. We have done it everyday and actually look forward to it!

The main point we are focusing on is that building more muscle will burn calories faster. We do a quick warm–up, 2 simple exercises (very specific and changes each day) and then a cool-down. The book has very easy instructions with simple pictures. We got 3lb dumbbells at Wal-Mart and the only other thing we needed was a kitchen chair and a pillow. We don’t use a mat or anything fancy. The living room floor works great. We are not following the “eating card system” which is also included in the book since we are already following Atkins and are happy with that. All said and done, we have lost more weight this week and I can feel muscles (I actually have abs somewhere under the flab!) I didn’t know I had.

My thought for this upcoming month will be to stay focused on doing what I know works and to keep a positive attitude. Slow and steady is better than quick and give up! I want to keep building some muscle, losing weight and enjoy the feeling of clothes that fit better and more energy in my day.
