DECEMBER 2003

I can finally say that I don't think of dieting and losing weight and exercise as bad words anymore. They are not the enemy, something to be endured for a short (or long) time, counting the days til they are not in my vocabulary any more. I have had a calm and enjoyable month, watching the amount of carbs I eat, but not obsessing or stressing out or even feeling deprived. I enjoy the days that I have stayed the same weight as much as those that I lose. Not to say that I don't have a big grin when I notice the scale go down, but I feel healthier and have more energy along with knowing I am eating well, regardless of what the scale says.

I am down a few lbs even after enjoying 3 (yes 3!) Thanksgiving meals where I ate stuffing and pie and rolls..........all the no-no's of my regular days. I ate a little of each thing and didn't feel stuffed after any of the meals. I exercised for about 3 out of the 4 weeks of the month, though it is only "8 Minutes in the Morning", not any high aerobic activity. I need to get started back up again with my exercise. The last 3 days I have had the flu and eaten nothing so I am sure that is why I lost the "Thanksgiving pounds" so quickly! With Christmas coming, I am going to be very happy to at least keep the pounds off this year by only indulging a few times that I plan for and watching carbs the rest of the time. It will be a challenge but it is nice that I have so many friends and relatives doing the same thing and there is some accountability between us all! How great it will be to start the New Year off not depressed or exasperated at how much weight the holidays brought, but excited to keep on the already well worn path that I have been following for months. Slow and steady, it has become like breathing to me and no longer is just to be endured!
