MARCH 2003
- THE
POSITIVES
How difficult it is for me each month to sit down and write this article.
The negative stuff just seems to jump out in front, screaming "write
about me, write about me." As I have written about previously, my
positive attitude, which used to be a part of my daily life, has disappeared
somewhere. I long for it to return. I know it will...in time. After discussing
this with a friend, she suggested writing about all the positive accomplishments
my children have made hoping this will make me feel better about my children,
and me as a parent. I agreed with her. Listing out all the positives -
in plain view - has always helped me, why would I have forgotten about
it now when I need it so desperately! I thank you, Laura, for helping
me remember this strategy and encouraging me in my most important job
- motherhood. So on her advice, here are "the positives".
Isaac's
accomplishments since his 4th birthday (July 2002)...
Ride a
bicycle with training wheels.
Count up to 100 and beyond.
Play by himself in his room.
Write his name legibly.
Identify all the letters in the alphabet.
Identify most letter sounds.
Beginning adding small numbers.
Made new friends on his own in Pre-K class.
Make his own bed.
Tell jokes.
Play advanced board games - his favorite is "Sorry".
Zip his jacket zipper.
Put on shoes with no help.
And most surprising... Make a pot of coffee - yes, he really did this!
I know
there are many more accomplishments that I have missed since I haven't
kept a running tab. I will just have to write down any others that I
remember later for my own reference.
Sabrina's accomplishments since birth (October 2002)...
Recognize
Mom, Dad and Isaac by both sight and sound.
Smiles.
Holds head up.
Rolls over both ways.
Lifts head and chest while propped on elbows.
Sleeps a 6 hour stretch almost every night.
Grabs a toy held out in front of her.
Transfers toy between hands.
Brings toy to mouth.
While on back, grabs toy by top of her head.
Makes loud "ah, ah" sounds.
Makes razzing/bubbly sounds.
Rides in car comfortably - no fussing (with full tummy of course).
I encourage
you to list out all of your children's accomplishments as well, if for
no other reason than to cherish them a year from now - and beyond. Happy
thoughts are waiting.

Isaac
was picking his runny, snotty nose and putting it in this mouth. Trevor
was watching him from across the living room and said quite sarcastically
"Do those boogers taste good?" Isaac replied enthusiastically,
"Yah! They do to me!"
~
Trevor had brought home a beautiful bouquet of flowers for me. As
I was putting them in a vase, Isaac commented, "Aren't those
pretty flowers, Mom?" I said, "Yes, these are very pretty
flowers. You're dad had good taste in flowers." "Well, my
dad gives me bad tasting flowers!"
