NOVEMBER 2002 - CHAOS

My chaotic life as the mother of a newborn and a 4 year old is amplified by the fact that our family just moved into a new house. Besides trying to keep afloat with the laundry and dishes, I have boxes to unpack and drawers, cupboards and closets to organize. I knew it would be difficult to move and have a baby in the same month, so why am I so surprised at just how difficult it really is?

My days are so full already, it is a miracle if I get any unpacking done! My main priority each day is to make sure everybody gets food to eat, Sabrina gets her diaper changed, Isaac gets to and from school and if I'm lucky - I get to take a shower at the end of the day. I'm still trying to balance caring for 2 children. Thankfully, Isaac transitioned to the new house and baby fairly quickly. I guess it is just me who's still having a hard time.

Sabrina is 5 weeks old at this writing and is doing incredibly well. She was born 5 lb. 5 oz and at 4 weeks was up to 7 lb. 11 oz - Trevor and I were so happy! I wasn't sure how well breastfeeding was going, but that tells me it's going good. I also feel blessed because Sabrina is a great nighttime sleeper and has been since birth. She's on a pattern of approximately 9:30 p.m., 1:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. We are frequently awake when Trevor's alarm goes off at 5 a.m., but back to sleep shortly after that. Our morning routine has been getting better. By the time Isaac gets up, Trevor is gone to work, so it's just me getting both kids and myself ready and out the door by 7:45 a.m. to get Isaac to his Pre-K class on time. I've changed my attitude regarding our morning routine (which was not going so well) and am a much happier person - even if it means being a little late. I'll just have to accept that this is what life will be like for a little while. Lovingly crazy.

The Great Character Development Workbook
Teach your children essential tools for life. Heidi's husband Nick is the author of this educational workbook for children.

After twirling in circles, Isaac fell to the ground and said "the world is tippy." And if that wasn't cute enough, he added that then we could "fall into heaven". If only it worked that way!
