SABBATICAL

A couple months ago I received notice from my sister Andrea that she wasn't going to continue writing articles for the Mysticool Moms. She has recently started her own home business (you can read her article and get all the details and a link) and she was already stressed about finding time to homeschool and run her new business and she needed to give up this writing job. Soon after that, Ginny was preparing to move across the country and wasn't planning on having email access for awhile and she too gave me her notice.

All the while, for the second time recently, everyone had turned in their articles to me but I still hadn't written mine and the delay in getting the newest update out was my fault. So I took a look at what was before me and realized I was in a slump. It isn't that my kids don't do interestingly profound things that inspire me, it's just I haven't felt that big urge to head to the computer and write about it.

So I'm going on sabbatical. To date, Mysticool Moms have received over 8700 unique visitors which averages over 400 a month. Most of the people accessing the site have typed in some problem or concern into a search engine and found the site and an article that hopefully helped, or at least made them realize they weren't alone.

I have full intention of returning to Mysticool Moms someday soon, my best estimate is between 6-12 months from now.

I'd like to thank ALL of my Mysticool Moms; Meredith, Ginny, Marcia, Andrea and Stella. Thank you so much for all you've given and I hope at least some of you will rejoin me at the grand re-opening!

I was explaining to Simon that I was really tired because Carter woke up too early and Simon said "Maybe you can take a nappie-noo when Dad gets home."

BIO
Before I became a mother I worked for 7 years in the social services field; focusing on child abuse prevention, parenting education, and domestic violence. I worked on a "warm-line" that helped struggling parents figure out why their two year old kept saying "no"; I worked with an adolescent pregnancy and parenting program that networked professionals working with teen parents and I organized a yearly prevention campaign that encouraged parents to talk to their kids about sex; and my last and favorite job was facilitating a team of professionals (psychologists, social workers, health care, law enforcement, and community members) who worked with the Department of Social and Health Services on their most difficult and high risk child abuse cases ~ helping parents find the resources and education they needed to be better parents.

While working at this agency, I started doing their graphic design. I enjoyed it so much I started my own graphic design business on the side. When I became pregnant for the first time (actually after 2 miscarriages) I quit my "regular" job and became an independent contractor for a domestic violence agency and I continued my graphics business from home. Right after my first son turned 2, I made a huge transition and opened my on-line jewelry store and quit working for anyone else. After 10 years of making jewelry for fun, it was time to make the leap. The web store premiered in September '01 and it has been an amazing creative project for me.

I have also been a facilitator for a parent infant group and have plans to facilitate more parent groups when my children get older. My hope for Mysticool Moms is that you the reader will realize you aren't alone in this crazy world of parenting - we are all going through these universal experiences. No matter how frustrating some moments may be, I want you to appreciate your children and your life - and if you need to make changes, help is out there. See our Resources page.
